1/11/2012 Lesson 1

I love the phrase in the begining of The Proclamation that states, "Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of Heavenly Parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny." Another sentence that stuck out to me was, "Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for eachother and for their children... Parents have sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another..."
I think reading this Proclamation at the begining of this lesson, and class, has been meaningful. There are many different ways to be a parent, and many books written on the subject. It's nice to get a firm foundation on what the "big picture" is on parenting. I enjoyed reading and learning about the entire purpose of coming to earth and getting married. It serves as a sound foundation to what is ahead.

I enjoyed Elder Hollands "Parable of the Homemade Shirt." I have been thinking about this all morning. Was he implying that if less-than-perfect parenting skills have been shown in past generations, than modern-day parenting is doomed?

President Packer answered the question, "How can we ever raise a family with all of this tempatation and difficulty about us?"
He directly and confidently stated, "Well, you can because you can be guided and you can teach your children to be guided."

How important it is for us as parents to always be seeking guidence from our Heavenly Father! And how important it is to adhear to that counsil we receive.

The long article "The Role of Men and Women" scared me.
I am thankful that the true, real perspective of how evil this world is was brought to light. I especially have remembered the word 'seige'.
"Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least." This is a common idea, even here at BYU-Idaho. I know many who are postponing having children until they are finished with school or untl they are more settled financially. The world is in such contradiction to the ways of the Lord! This quote really stuck to me.
